Some of the most enlightening reading you can do when planning a vacation…or just daydreaming…is the BROCHURE. Perhaps you picked it up at your travel agent’s office or it was mailed to you from a cruise line or tour operator. However you obtained it, you are intrigued by the magnificent colored pictures, the maps and location descriptions. Those colorful natives in their fantastic clothing; aerial views of the Vatican and close-ups of adorable children…how easy it is to be carried away before you book the tour! Here are a number of things to look for, beyond the pictures and scenic wonders.

There are two main types of brochures: government visitors’ bureau and tour operator. Either publication is sure to intrigue you and goad you to visit, but the tour company’s brochure is the practical one…it’s the one you should learn to read and decipher. Yes, decipher, because if you know what’s being sold you’ll be well on the way to getting just what you want.

Determine if the tour is a budget, first class, deluxe or luxury tour. What’s the difference, other than the price? The answer can be found in the text of the brochure, or ask your travel agent for the classification.

Important words and phrases:

(1) “From:” This is the STARTING price of the tour. It is the lowest price at which this tour is offered and is usually at the beginning or end of the season. Check the list of prices and be aware of how they change with date…holidays almost always incur an additional charge.

(2) “Land Only:” The price quoted DOES NOT INCLUDE AIR FARE!

(3) “On tour air:” This tour covers large distance by plane and the cost of the flights may or may not be included in the tour price. Be sure to ask.

(4) Meal codes: B = breakfast; CB = Continental breakfast; BB = Buffet breakfast; L = Lunch; D = Dinner, HD = Highlight or special folkloric dinner

Some tours do not offer any meals, some offer breakfast only; few offer lunch. Do the included meals include beverages? Coffee, tea, wine, soft drinks are usually not part of a meal in Europe, but some companies do include it.

(5) Hotels: Some brochures name the hotels at which you will be staying and rate them in one fashion or another (few will use a star system). Look for such keys as F (first class), ST, (superior tourist), T (tourist), D (deluxe). Check the hotel on Google or Trip Advisor to get a full description.

(6) ”Deposit:”, the amount of money necessary to secure the reservation. Deposits are usually NOT refundable and are time sensitive in that they must be received by a specified date.

(7) "View versus Visit:" Visit means that there is a stop at the location for sightseeing. Any entrance costs are included in your price. View implies that you will stop by, perhaps for a brief picture stop, but you would not go into the location for extensive viewing. I’ll go into more detail on this topic below.

(8) "Why not see?" This means that an optional excursions will be offered to tour an area or famous site. You will have to pay additional monies in order to participate, or you can pass and use the time to go out on your own. Unlike cruises, optionals for tours are not booked in advance unless you are doing a custom trip. On standard vacations, you would pay your tour director once you arrive at your destination.

(9) “Final payment due…” the date on which the balance of money must be paid. Watch for special promotions that request you to pay in full at the time of booking or earlier than usual. Although at times you can save up to 10% off the tour, you don’t want to be surprised having to come up with a substantial amount of money unless you are prepared for it.

(10) Gratuities. It is customary to tip your guide and coach driver, the amount will depend on your assessment of the service you received. Deluxe and Luxury tours may include gratuities in the basic rate, be sure you understand whether tipping is included, expected or forbidden (seldom the last!) Hotel porterage is usually included as is handling of luggage to/from the coach. Service at meals which are included do not require tipping, but you are certainly welcome to add a bit on your own.

Have questions about your next tour vacation? Give us a call, we'll be glad to explain all of this in detail, as it pertains to your selected tour.

A client called today to find out when her documents would arrive. They had just arrived from the supplier, approximately 3 weeks prior to tour start date, which is the normal delivery time. They were mailed out the same day.

I told her they would be delivered by UPS to her home address on Monday.

This is 8 days prior to her departure.

She was satisfied with this and we ended the call.

She called back about 10 minutes later and asked where the documents were being mailed to. I told her they were on their way to her address in Chicago. She said, “But I’m in Rhode Island”.

I asked why she did not advise me of this and she said, “We always spend our summers in Rhode Island”

Okay, so now I need a crystal ball with all of the other hats I wear! I was supposed to know this??

I told her I would see what I could do and called the supplier to ask if another set of documents could be generated and mailed out.

This reservation was made with a Luxury Tour supplier and they agreed to send the documents directly to her Rhode Island address.

If this were a supplier other than a Luxury Tour operator, a duplicate set of documents would have a fee to generate and the overnight mail would have to be paid for by the client.

Please think of your travel agent as one of your circle of family and friends. Keep us in mind to notify us of any changes in your life. Give us your airline schedule if you make your own airline reservations; give us all contact numbers and dates when you’ll be at another location. Don’t think you’re bothering us with trivia. Our job is to give you the best customer service we can, but to do this we need your help.

When a place has as much to offer as Australia & New Zealand, it is wise to organize your time before leaving home. By arranging an independent tour or joining an escorted, group tour, you'll be able to make the most efficient use of your time and see more of the wonder down under.

Australia and New Zealand are full of amazing natural landscapes, vibrant cities and modern attractions. There's so much of interest it's not surprising visitors return inspired and excited about their experiences.

New Zealand is compact and can be covered, top to bottom, in a couple of weeks.

Across the Tasman Sea lies Australia. This vast country has many areas catering to visitors that are long distances apart.

Combining both countries is an adventure of a lifetime as you see two of the most fascinating countries in the world - from spectacular Fjordland National Park, New Zealand to Ayers Rock, Australia and everything surrounding these amazing places.

Independent Touring

Farm stays let you experience first hand a vital part of these agricultural nations.

With the long distances in Australia, take advantage of an air pass if you have limited time. There are also rail and coach passes available for independent travellers.

Independent tours designed for families include activities just for kids like a visit to the School of the Air, a program of radio instruction for children of the Outback.

For the outdoor adventurer, trekking, bird and wildlife viewing are safe and pleasant in New Zealand as there are no natural predators or snakes. Take a hike on White Island, an active marine volcano or through the Waitomo Caves to glow worm grotto.

You’ve seen it in the movies and on television…and you are more than a bit curious…

What is Angkor Wat?

The answer is simple, the destination is not, but well-worth the effort for the curious, intrepid traveler.

Angkor Wat is the famous Hindu temple to the god Vishnu, located a few miles outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Siem Reap, once the center of the Khmer empire, is now a rather quiet city which seems to exist for tourists.

After you’ve checked into your comfortable, quiet hotel in Siem Reap you may wish to avail yourself of a soothing message…very welcome after traveling the long hours many miles you’ve come for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Your hotel will probably have an in-house masseuse, swimming pool and the luxury amenities which will be so surprisingly available in this exotic corner of the world.

The best time to visit the vast temple complex (containing many temples and monuments) is in the morning, before the heat of the day overwhelms you…always carry bottled water with you and purchase it ONLY at your hotel! A knowledgeable guide is preferred, but a good guide book will assist you in making your way around this vast collection of architectural wonders!!! You’ll need a guide to interpret the mural-like carvings, which tell the stories of warriors, gods, goddesses ; victories and slightly risqué encounters.

There are ladders to climb to heights with breathtaking views, cool, shady corroders whose stone walls are covered in magnificently preserved carvings. Walk with care because many areas are being restored There will be touring monks in saffron robes…don’t be surprised if they take your picture and feel free to ask you to pose with you for your camera. Many are mendicants and will politely accept charity, but will not confront or pester or pester you.

The breathtaking site of Ta Prohm will dazzle you!! This is the oft-photographed temple that has been left as it was found when this area was re-discovered. The jungle has invaded and vast trunks and branches inundate the buildings. You will be amazed how nature can reclaim vast areas of man’s endeavor!!

Before you say farewell to Angkor Wat, you must await sunset at Angkor Wat: the golden hues of the magnificent towers glisten in the setting rays and the shadows elongate…the lake provides a mirror reflection of this amazing sight, and you will take a picture (in your camera or in your mind’s eye) that will be a momento of a fantastic adventure.

The images many of us invoke of Kenya is that of safaris replete with wild animal sightings and golden African sunsets. The truth is, one can never truly appreciate the grandeur of the Kenyan experience and discover its offerings until they visit. On the first day of your visit, whether navigating the bustling streets of Nairobi, or traversing the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in a well-suited 4x4 vehicle, you will understand that you’re in for an enriching, moving, and eye-opening journey.

Wildlife is but one of Kenya’s magical attributes. Kenya is an immensely diverse country – with mountains, lakes, golden savannah, rolling hills, aged volcanoes, white sand beaches, and lush grasslands. Its awe-inspiring views leave you speechless, and feeling a range of different emotions – happiness for the amazing beauty you are lucky to see, and excitement for the wealth of activities and experiences you can cover in your first and successive visits.

A safari in Kenya, the cradle of humanity and true home of the safari, is beyond expectations. Visitors may choose from a hot-air balloon experience replete with a champagne bush breakfast, a leisurely bike through verdant savanna, a 4x4 expedition over rugged hills in quest of wildlife, or a traditional dhow sailing experience on the Indian Ocean. Perhaps you’ll opt for a guided walk with a Maasai warrior or saddle up for a horseback expedition along side a family of giraffes. A definite must-see is a nighttime safari utilizing night-vision goggles to spot nocturnal wildlife on the prowl. Kenya offers an array of incredible and stylish ways to enhance your wildlife-viewing experiences.

Lodging and dining options in Kenya are as varied as activities. Imagine a five-star luxury lodge atop an escarpment overlooking the breathtaking Lakipia Plateau, or sleeping on a star bed beneath the undisturbed Kenya night sky at a working ranch. Let grunting hippos sing you into slumber in the comfort of a luxuriously appointed tent in the Maasai Mara. You’ll want to try the Kenyan version of a juicy rib eye steak on a sizzling hot plate along the Talek River, or a velouté of pumpkin to warm you on cool evenings in Mount Kenya National Park, or head to the coast to savor a spicy seafood stew paired with a local Tusker beer. Be sure to indulge in endless servings of local delicacies at the world-famous Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi.

Through these varied culinary experiences and accommodations, you will get a taste of Kenya’s warm and engaging culture. Everyone always remembers the storytelling of Maasai guides who will share their culture and stories of nomadic life amongst the wildlife. Try a run with the Kalenjin, famed for their endurance, or a dance with the colorful Samburu. And be sure not to miss exploring the history of Swahili culture in Lamu Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while staying at a charming ocean-front cottage with the waves of the Indian Ocean lapping at your door.

Through your safari or “journey,” you will discover a country with a rich heart filled with history, warmth, kindness, beauty and wonder. Above all, your journey through magical Kenya will touch you deeply and beckon you to return again and again.

Paris Vacation Packages & the Eiffel Tower

Paris is one of the world’s most romantic cities and elegant capitals in Europe with a wide array of things to do. Stroll along the Champs-Elysees, see the amazing collections at the Louvre, take a cruise down the Siene River, browse for antique books on the Left Bank, explore the City of Light’s Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.

Also known as the City of Lights, one of Paris’ highlights, is certainly the Eiffel Tower. Engineered by Gusatave Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower was built in 1887 as the entrance arch to the Exposition Universelle, the World’s Fair. What was considered an eyesore for the Parisians at the time of its construction, is now a monument linked to many historical events, and a structure that represents France to people around the world. It is a “must see” for anyone going to Paris.

The tower has three stories, with the first two accessible by stairs and elevator, while the top floor is accessible solely by elevator. The view is not all the Eiffel Tower offers though, there is a skating rink on the first floor during winters and the facility is free to use. Apart from the rink, there is the Altitude 95 on the first floor, a restaurant able to cater to up to 200 people. The second floor has a reservations only restaurant, with a private elevator. In addition, a post office, a photo studio, souvenir shops and beautiful gardens. The view from the top, as expected, is phenomenal. You cannot miss the Eiffel Tower at night. The “metal lady” is illuminated by 352 projectors of 1000 watts and twinkles every 30 minutes in the evening with 20.000 bulbs and 800 fairy lights.

With the popularity of the monument, you can expect to face long lines, but the end view from the top of the tower is a worthwhile experience. If you travel with a tour operator, you can typically skip the lines as they get preferred access. Packages include hotel accommodations, breakfast daily and a half day city tour with prices starting at $599 pp for 5 nights. If you don’t like the idea of being on a motorcoach the entire time, there are not “city stays” that allow flexibility, while still having the essentials taken care of. You can also combine stays with surrounding cities such as London or Nice, take a cooking class, visit a wine vineyard, stay in a luxury resort, or take a river cruise.

Meandering through the beautiful countryside on a river boat is an idyllic way to experience France. This slower paced mode of travel, away from the noise of traffic, lets you be a part of the charming rural scene. River boats also stop right in the heart of towns and cities - very convenient for exploring places of interest at your leisure.

France by river boat...You can discover France by river boat on sailings with our preferred partners, AMA Waterways, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld and Viking River Cruises. These companies offer a selection of cruises on the Seine, Rhône, Saône and Rhine rivers:

The Seine from Paris to the Normandy Beaches - Sail round-trip from Paris on this eight day cruise. Spend two nights in Paris and call at Conflans, Vernon, Rouen and Les Andelys. Excursions include Monet's home and gardens at Giverny, the famous Château Gaillard, the splendid Gothic Cathedral in Rouen and a tour of the D-Day landing beaches.

The Rhône and Saône through Burgundy and Provence - Sail between Arles or Avignon and Chalon-sur-Saône for a delightful eight-day experience in Southern France. Call at Viviers, Tournon, Vienne and Lyon. Enjoy wine tours of the Burgundy and Beaujolais wine regions. Extend your cruise to include a land stay in Paris or the Côte d'Azur. Avalon Waterways offers a wine cruise on the October 30, 2011 departure with special lectures and tastings at no additional cost while June 26, 2011 is a Jazz theme sailing.

Rhine River cruises call at Strasbourg - Discover the capital of the Alsace region and home of the European Parliament. Strasbourg sits on the border of France and Germany and has many points of interest. It is also a good jumping off point for visiting the Alsace wine region.

Back to back and longer sailings

15 or 16-day Grand France sailings combine the Seine, Rhône and Saône cruises mentioned above.

Add Paris to Central European river cruises with a connection between Paris and your river boat by high speed train. Examples are Budapest to Paris, for 19 Days; Prague to Paris for 12 days; Amsterdam to Paris for 12 or 13 days and the ultimate Paris to Istanbul, covering 10 countries in 31 days.

Land extensions - Hotel stays in Paris, the Côte d'Azur and charming Aix-en- Provence let you enjoy more of France before or after your cruise.

The River Cruise Lifestyle

Think of river boats as floating boutique hotels and you'll have a good idea of what they are like. The interiors have grace and style while the food and service is outstanding. They offer levels of luxury in line with cruise ships. You'll certainly be pampered as you sail serenely through France seeing all the highlights along the way.

Consider the many advantages of river cruising:

Central locations - River boats dock conveniently downtown. Step ashore in the heart of town when you're ready to explore. Cruises from Paris include two overnights on board before you sail so you can visit Paris without having to book a pre-cruise hotel.

Outstanding excursions - Included excursions are a real plus and a major advantage of taking a river cruise. Informative local guides lead complimentary sightseeing tours in each town. Additional excursions are available for purchase. Quietvox headsets ensure tour members can always hear the guide.

English speaking staff & guides - Tour guides and staff speak English on the cruises offered by our preferred partners, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld and Viking River Cruises.

Scenic cruising - Relax and enjoy the scenery away from busy highways and traffic noise. River boats feature plenty of picture windows in public areas and open deck space where you can sit back and take in the view. Many staterooms have picture windows while suites have French doors or wall-to-wall panoramic windows.

No motion sickness - Since you aren't on the open sea and river boats are very stable, there's no problem with motion.

Friendly companions - There is a great camaraderie on board these small vessels which in France carry from 132 to 150 passengers. River cruises are known for being very friendly.

Convenience - Unpack once and the river boat is your floating hotel. This is one of the real pleasures of any type of cruising.

Excellent Value

River Cruises certainly offer excellent value with so many items included in the fare: Wine, beer and soft drinks with dinner, soft drinks with lunch (new for 2011 from Uniworld), an excursion in each town and on some sailings, airport transfers on arrival and departure days. Packages can be built to include air from your closest gateway, pre and post cruise land stays and transfers making your river cruise a more all-inclusive experience.

If you're looking for an easy and convenient way to travel, away from busy highways and traffic, a river cruise could be just right for you. You'll see the region's highlights, the scenic countryside and enjoy great food, wine and pampering along the way. Sounds great doesn't it? Why not consider a France river cruise for your next vacation?

In August, one of the world's greatest spectacles can be witnessed, the wildebeest and zebra migrations on the Masai Mara national reserve in Kenya. While on an African safari, you can also see lions, giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs, antelopes and gazelles. There are some very unique places to stay in Kenya, including lodges, safari clubs and luxury tented camps.

If you don't mind crowds, you can visit Scotland in August to attend the world's largest art festival, in Edinburgh, or the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. It is the rainy season, so make sure and pack an umbrella or raincoat. Accommodations are hard to come by due to these festivals, so it may be best to book with a tour operator who already had rooms blocked off a year in advance, so you are not overpaying.

Yellowstone national park is located in Wyoming. August is a great time to see wildlife, including bears, wolves, eagles, elk and bison. The weather is warm during the day, but can get chilly at higher elevations in the evenings. You can hike, take guided fishing and boating trips, photo safaris and more. You can spend several days in Yellowstone, or combine it with travel to other U.S. national parks. Chances are that most national park tours are sold out for this August, but you can now book early for 2012 national park tours and save up to 10%.

In August, the salmon spawn in Alaska, which attracts bears to feed along the shorelines. Bald eagles also feed on the salmon, so this is a great time for bird watching and to see Alaskan wildlife. Species of birds include ducks, hawks, puffin and loons. If cruising in Alaska, you may also see whales and sea otters. There are still some last minute cruise deals for Alaska cruises if you are interested.

France is a western European country stretching from the Mediterranean to the North Sea, from the Rhine River to the Atlantic Ocean. It borders Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra and Spain. The Rhône, Saône, Seine, and Rhine Rivers also flow through the country, giving visitors many opportunities to enjoy a relaxing France river cruise. Few countries can rival France for its contributions to world history, culture, language, literature, cinema, cuisine and viticulture. There are many reasons why the country is the #1 tourist destination in the world

A river cruise along one of the country’s rivers will allow visitors to experience the varied landscape, cities, and towns that make this area so special. A cruise along the Rhône River or the Saône River will bring cruise travelers through the heart of Burgundy and Provence, which features delicious food and wine, as well as beautiful scenery along the river. A popular Uniworld river cruise visits this region is the 8 day Burgundy and Provence

France’s Seine River will bring cruise visitors through Normandy, where grand monuments of established cities and medieval centers of bustling market towns and sleepy river villages await them. A wonderful itinerary for this region is Avalon Waterways Paris to Normandy's Landing Beaches.
Even if you have traveled to France before, a river cruise is a great way to see the country from a new perspective, allowing you to experience grand cities, vibrant market towns, and quaint river villages all in the same trip.

The eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea have seen the beginning of human history, the emergence of great religions, and the rise and fall of civilizations. Now you can see the place with religious history, where the ancient kings lived and died, and where words and ideas have changed the direction of humanity.

Egypt’s Valley of the Kings has hosted the world’s most spectacular pyramids for 5 millennia, while the country around them has transformed into a modern center for entertainment, activities and culture. Choose from land tours or those that include a journey along the Nile.

Israel is a popular tourist destination in the Mediterranean for its multitude of religious and historical sites, its many luxurious resorts, the modern culture and nightlife of Tel Aviv, the healing spas of the Dead Sea and Eilat, and unique natural surroundings throughout.

Nearby Jordan offers a variety of attractions for travelers seeking something slightly different — an unspoiled land of desert beauty dotted with cities both modern and ancient.

Dubai is a modern city that rises out of the desert like an oasis of glass and steel and total luxury. As one of the world’s fastest growing cities, Dubai has emerged as a premier luxury travel destination, drawing visitors from all over the globe. Its dry and sunny weather, incredible shopping experiences, and unique tourist attractions have helped to turn it into a bona fide hot spot where ancient and modern cultures come together. Tour operators have just started offering vacations to Dubai, but the cruise lines all realized early on that Dubai is a thriving city and have added it as a port of call on several itineraries. Royal Caribbean took things one step further, and from January to April 2010, the Brilliance of the Seas will sail out of Dubai with an overnight stay allowing passengers to to enjoy the city. Ports of call will include Muscat, Oman, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi and Mina Sulman, Bahrain.

The Eastern Mediterranean region offers a wealth of sites and cities of interest unmatched anywhere in the world. Explore the past and the present on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to this mystical place.

During the days the desert climate can be very warm and dry, while nights are often cool and breezy.

In Europe, romance is as much a part of its traditions as the centuries-old cathedrals, the collective royal heritage and the eons of its sometimes tragic history. But it's that very history and tradition, too, that's responsible for a huge inventory of romance and honeymoon product you will savor as you share that romantic legacy with your loved one.

One of Italy's most romantic cities is Florence-the home of poets and painters and the spawning ground of what must be much of the world's great art. Even today, it's a city where art and creativity are in the forefront of everyday life, a city of timeless beauty tailor-made for lovers. So, imagine honeymooning or sharing a lovers' tryst in the stunning 400-year-old Grand Hotel Villa Medici, an historical residence located in the center of Florence within walking distance of all major art sites and shopping locations. Here, the high-quality service meets the elegance of the interior's historical furnishings, with each of its 88 rooms and 15 suites showcasing original antique furnishings and tapestries. Wide windows frame Florence and the Tuscany landscape, while the rooms on the top floor-which have private terraces and are a must for honeymooners and lovers-overlook the captivating cityscape. Or, there's the Il Magnifico Suite, which has a large terrace and jacuzzi. The hotel's Sina Fitness Club is the perfect place for couples to relax, enjoy a sauna, a Turkish bath or work out in the gym, while the restaurant Lorenzo de Medici with its Tuscan cuisine, provides an excellent and romantic Florentine dining experience. The restaurant abuts the Conservatory, another dining experience with a modern interior and verandah leading to the garden and pool. Clients of both restaurants can enjoy warm summer nights listening to live music and tasting exquisite wines.

Venice, too, of course, ranks right up there as a city for lovers. It's here, after all, where you'll find the famous Bridge of Sighs where, local legend says, lovers will be assured eternal love if they kiss on a gondola at sunset under the bridge. Unfortunately, the name really came from the fact that this was a passageway that took prisoners into the palace prisons from which few returned and where the hapless victims looked out onto freedom for the last time with a sigh. Except for one, the famous Casanova who was arrested in 1755 for spreading antireligious sentiment and escaped 15 months after he crossed the Bridge of Sighs-now that's romance. Nearby, overlooking the Riva degli Shiavoni, just steps from Piazza San Marco, St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, the restored and romantic Hotel Danieli is made up of three interconnecting palaces. The main building, the 14th century Dandolo Palace, is Venetian gothic lavishly appointed with pink marble, stained glass, gold-leaf decorated ceilings, Murano glass chandeliers and antiques. The adjacent Casa Nuova building is a 19th century palace whose decor reflects a rich, Venetian baroque style. The building to the right of the central Dandolo Palace is the Danielino, dating back to 1948 with decor focusing on Old World charm. But it's the lagoon-view rooms-some of which have a balcony-that are beautifully decorated in Empire or Venetian style with romantic views of the Venice lagoon, another must for honeymooners and lovers. Directly overlooking the Grand Canal with an incomparable view of Venice and just a short stroll from the Piazza San Marco, the Hotel Gritti Palace has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most romantic hotels in the world, attracting elite guests such as the British royal family, the Duke of Windsor, the Princess of Monaco and a bevy of Hollywood stars all the way up to today's most popular celebrities. And it's not like this is a new thing for the property, considering it was commissioned in 1525 as the residence of the Doge of Venice-Doge Andrea Gritti-and was later used as the official residence of the Vatican's ambassadors to Venice. As one of the most celebrated hotels in the world, there's no better place to take advantage of a honeymoon program-what the hotel describes as, "a fairy tale honeymoon in magical, dreamy Venice." Couples are welcomed with a bottle of wine and a bouquet of flowers in their hotel room where they'll spend a memorable night in the intimacy of a richly decorated double room or luxurious jr. suite or suite. The next morning, they're awakened leisurely to a daily breakfast served-at their discretion-in room or in the Club Del Doge restaurant. Various tours-individual, group, walking, boat, guided-may be organized through the hotel concierge. Tour guides are available upon request and honeymooners can arrange for a late check-out at 4:30 p.m.

It wouldn't be right to exclude Rome, the Eternal City, in a Europe honeymoon review and we would certainly be remiss not to mention the Hotel Hassler, which has been recognized as one of the prime hotels in Europe for more than 100 years. With an unbeatable location atop the Spanish Steps, it's one of Italy's most luxurious with 82 rooms and 13 suites, all of which are elegantly furnished with antiques while equipped with modern leisure. The suites feature exquisite boiserie and frescoes, original paintings by the Titian and Tintoretto schools and the furniture is in original 18th century Louis XV style. The large bathrooms are finished in precious Italian marble and 23-carat gold-plated faucets. Fine Italian cuisine is available at Imago, the Salone Eva Restaurant & Bar, and the Palm Court Garden Restaurant & Bar during the warmer weather seasons. Beauty and wellness treatments are also available at Amorvero SPA. The Honeymoon package includes four nights in a luxury deluxe accommodation, daily buffet breakfast or room service, continental breakfast, a bottle of Prosecco (Italian sparkling white wine) in room upon arrival, daily fresh fruit in room, a special gift from the hotel's management from the Amorvero Home Collection, a romantic dinner at panoramic, Michelin-starred Imago, with Rome's most breathtaking views and creative Italian cuisine, plus guaranteed upgrade from deluxe to an exclusive grand deluxe double room.

Despite its recent financial woes, there's no place like Greece and the Greek Islands for a truly classic honeymoon experience and indeed, many of its island resorts were built primarily with romance in mind. At Cavo Tagoo Resort on Mykonos, for example, the overall seductive design screams romance and intimacy-everything from the infinity pool overlooking the blue Aegean Sea, to the chic, luxurious and comfortable rooms and suites, all designed to embody a contemporary minimalist island aesthetic while remaining true to the traditional character and architecture of the Cycladic Islands. All modern amenities and conveniences are provided to ensure an experience of utter comfort in an elegantly minimalist and relaxed chic setting, while excellent touches of luxury are added such as jacuzzi tubs and private pools. The Cavo Tagoo Spa is also designed with a focus on classic Greek beliefs and legends and has been ideally placed in a unique location immersed in Cycladean light, facing Delos, the birthplace of the mythical God of the sun, Apollo. Its mission, they say, "...is to fuse the latest in international spa trends with a simultaneous, traditional Greek approach to wellness and beauty in our award-winning treatments and products. The Cavo Tagoo Spa Experience is an indigenous journey of the six senses-see, smell, touch, hear, feel, and experience." Couples can also take tours to Delos, charter boats or rent cars for trips to the Mykonos town.

On Santorini, honeymoon and lovers will be mesmerized by the Andronis Luxury Suites, a breathtaking all-suite boutique hotel that sits high above the sea with panoramic views of a volcano or caldera soaring into the sky across the water. The property offers five different suite categories with the first three offering spacious living areas, separate bedrooms and private, seaview verandahs, while the exceptional suite category offers a jacuzzi and a jet pool, while the pool suite offers an infinity pool overlooking the sea. Needless to say, there's plenty of 21st century comforts and amenities including satellite TV, CD player, wireless internet and international telephony-all offered in a classical but timeless island setting. The onsite restaurant serves local cuisine with traditional recipes that include virgin olive oil, fresh vegetables, Greek herbs and succulent meats, blended with organic ingredients and elements of nouvelle cuisine to create a superlative menu-all washed down with some of Santorini's famous local wines, cultivated from the island's very own vineyards. There is also a special selection of international wines. Mare Et Sanus Spa, inspired by Greek nature and the healing power of the gods, offers massages and body treatments or even a complete Day Spa Program. Local ingredients such as propolis, tomato, cucumber, orange, fig, cinnamon and almond are all part of the spa's unique, different treatments that relax, rejuvenate and revitalize.

It's not possible to list European honeymoon and romance choices without mentioning Paris, the City of Light and Love, where romance fuses with culture. Which is why couples will enjoy celebrating the centennial of the Hotel Lutetia-a property that calls itself a "...modern-day reflection of the belle epoque and Art Deco periods; the embodiment of contemporary, stylish Parisian living." Nestled in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, it's within walking distance of the Seine, the Musee d'Orsay, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the boutiques and designers' studios on the Left Bank. Views of the nearby Eiffel Tower can be enjoyed from many of the rooms and suites where the classic styling of the 1930s is combined with all the modern amenities. In fact, the sculpted Art Deco facade and welcoming statue of Gustave Eiffel, along with pictures of artists who once lived here, attest to the fact the hotel is full of artistic surprises. But while it's not a honeymoon or romance spot for everyone, it's ideal for couples who enjoy the arts. Even today, it's a meeting place for artists, writers and politicians, with the lobby boasting a lively edginess with displayed works of art by renowned contemporary artists such as Arman, Cesar, Philippe Hiquily, Perrin and Thierry Bisch. Surrounded by Art Deco architecture, period furniture, crystal chandeliers and the sounds of jazz music drifting through from the highly popular Lutetia Bar, this is a place truly immersed in a lively Parisian atmosphere.

But for those who want to honeymoon outside of the City of Light, there's a great option in sunny St. Tropez-the Chateau de la Messardiere, the 75-room and 6-suite Leading Hotels of the World property with a history that goes all the way back to the seventh century. Today, it's a beautifully restored, five-star beauty that sits near the beautiful French Riviera and combines traditional beauty with contemporary flair. It's a great honeymoon spot and for couples who want to combine a lovers' solitude with a little seaside fun. The different room categories offer a variety of views, but for the best romantic experience, book either the deluxe room with views from the terrace or the balcony to the countryside and the gardens, or even better, the Prestige Room with large private terraces and breathtaking views of the sea from the room and the terrace. The Chateaux spa offers a variety of body treatments and fitness equipment, but the truly pampering experience here is the gourmet restaurant Les Trois Saisons, reputed to be one of St. Tropez's best dining addresses and open evenings only. The hotel claims that the restaurant is "...the perfect venue for a romantic dinner for two or with friends," because Les Trois Saisons serves refined and creative Mediterranean-style cuisine in a truly exceptional ambiance. The restaurant's huge terrace offers sweeping views over the beaches of Pampelonne. The wine selection, by the way, is as sweeping as the panorama with over 400 wines and champagnes from France and the world over, with new wines being added every year.

There's still another take on a resort stay on the French Riviera with a relatively new property near St. Tropez-La Reserve Ramatuelle, a 23-room and -suite boutique hotel with an additional 12, 4- and 5-bedroom rental villas on site. It's the boutique aspect, of course, that lends itself to honeymooners or lovers, with each of the rooms and suites enjoying their own private garden or terrace. All of the modern amenities are included, of course, with drop-dead gorgeous views of the Mediterranean thrown in for free. The hotel's restaurant and bar promises "...meticulously flavored tastes of the south, that are subtly combined for pleasure, as well as health." But it's the spa here that's the real spoiler. It even includes a 6-day program designed to focus on the personal health objectives of the guest with the goal of achieving long-term health improvement and "...maximize the future life potential of each participant." Still another program is called Discovery Day, where guests get to sample the unique spa offerings, such as baleneotherapy, of their choice, exfoliant or wrap, a 50-minute body treatment, jet shower and lunch. Then there's the Creme de la Mere, which they say is exclusive skin care with the goal of relaxation and pure pleasure and includes two regenerating facials and body treatments.

For a truly fairy tale honeymoon, look no further than Europe's own fairy tale city-the beautiful and wonderfully preserved city of Prague in the Czech Republic. This is a city, in fact, that stands for many things-music and theater, Kafka and Mozart, beer and dumplings-but especially for its romantic, charming and unforgettable atmosphere. So what could be more romantic for your couples than booking into The Iron Gate Hotel & Suites, set in a 14th century building located in the heart of Prague's Old Town, in a picturesque, cobbled side street just steps from the famous Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square-the perfect choice for enjoying the wonders of Prague, in spacious, elegant and historical surroundings. The Iron Gate Hotel & Suites offers 43 unique rooms and suites, each with a different layout, view and decor. This beautiful landmark, set in the privacy of an inner courtyard with unforgettable atmosphere, is certainly one of the hidden gems in Prague. Most rooms and suites are decorated with original 14th to 18th century frescoes or painted ceilings and some Royal Suites even offer two bathrooms and a jacuzzi. Room and suite amenities include DVD player with a selection of over 80 DVD movies available free of charge, in-room Internet connection, minibar, alarm/clock radio, satellite and cable on 28-inch large-screen TV, ETRO Designer toiletries and luxury linens. The hotel has a 2-night Romantic & Honeymoon stay in one of its luxurious jr. suites or 1-bedroom Royal Suites. The program includes Mercedes car transfer from and to the airport or railway station, welcome drink, full buffet breakfast or breakfast served in the room, flower arrangements in the room, a bottle of Bohemian sparkling wine, coffee and tea service, as well as a romantic 3-course candlelight dinner.

How far would you go to get the ultimate rush, and how much are you willing to pay? In the past few years, the extreme adventure travel market is growing.

Experiencing nature's most demanding landscapes can reveal exactly who you are, testing your physical, psychological and maybe even spiritual selves. Extreme adventures cover a breadth of activities ranging from mildly demanding to profoundly challenging. These adventures can take you from the world's highest peaks to its most remote terrains, from the polar ice caps to the sun-bleached deserts of Africa and all points in between.

Brave the planet's harshest environments, come face to face with its most exotic wildlife and blaze paths where humans rarely venture. Return from your journey a different person from when you embarked into the power of nature and your ability to overcome it.

In man versus machine, you can experience the rush of speed from the driver's seat of a Formula One racer to the cockpit of a supersonic fighter jet. Go to the edge of the earth visiting the North or South poles. Reach the South Pole on skis or find the polar bear in its Arctic habitat on rugged polar adventures. Land within 50 feet of the emperor penguin nesting areas in Antarctica to see as many as 3,000 Emperor Penguin chicks. Take an extreme safari. See Africa's wildlife by canoe, on foot, on camelback or even from a helicopter. Reach Mount Everest Base Camp or the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, two of the world's most challenging mountain treks. Dive into the waters off Belize for up-close encounters with its extraordinary sea life, including the elusive whale shark. Explore the rainforests via ATV, riverboat or by foot. Track the elusive puma and jaguars. Experience life in the unforgiving desert following the path of Lawrence of Arabia in Jordan or exploring Egypt's White Desert.

Luxury tour operator, Abercrombie and Kent is banking not only that people will want to go to the extremes, but that they are willing to pay big bucks for the right experience. Prices start at around $5,000 up to $15,000 per person, double occupancy depending on the length of the trip and the destination.

Whatever extreme adventure you choose, just make sure you book with a reputable and knowledgeable tour operator, so that you are ensured the best experience for your money.

There's a new Nile River Cruise Boat, and believe me, the Nile needs some new ones. I know first-hand, as I've been there, done that. I did have the opportunity to sail on one of the nicer boats, but viewed soooo many old, old ones. At times I wondered how they were held together.

The River Tosca, by Uniworld, is a beautiful, 82-passenger luxury ship. The marble lobby floors with Arabesque detailing lead to a wood-paneled lounge with a colonial Egypt feel, complete with club chairs.
Adventures by Disney just released their tour vacations for 2010.

Entering its fifth year, Adventures by Disney designs tours with the family in mind and provides educationally-enriched experiences so even younger travelers understand, appreciate and have fun in their new surroundings. These hassle-free vacations, rooted in the service and quality of family travel leader Disney, provide distinctive opportunities and special touches to make memories that last a lifetime.

“We are able to offer vacation experiences to some of the most fascinating places on earth, literally bringing history to life for our guests,” said Don Gross, Vice President, Adventures by Disney. “Each itinerary is carefully planned, creating a vacation that includes the most iconic and must-see sites as well as off-the-beaten path excursions. In fact, guests often tell us the hardest part about the trip is choosing the adventure.”

The Disney Difference

From snorkeling with sea turtles in the Galapagos to discovering Europe’s classic history, each itinerary is as matchless as its surroundings. Yet one aspect holds true for every trip: the special touches that are collectively called “the Disney difference” .

Adventure Guide: Part storyteller, ambassador, concierge and role model, Adventures by Disney’s highly-trained Adventure Guides are the friendly hosts and travel specialists who lead guests on every trip. With two guides assigned for every group (of up to 40 people), travelers receive individual attention to ensure a fun and enriching vacation.

Junior Adventurers: Young travelers are transformed into Junior Adventurers – seeing, hearing and tasting things that they might otherwise not have experienced. The immersive activities created just for kids allow young travelers to learn and have fun in places like museums that aren’t always as entertaining for the younger set. For example, at the Louvre in Paris, the Junior Adventurers play an Art Detective game throughout the museum with their Adventure Guides, while adults take a privately guided tour with an art historian. In addition, the Adventure Guides are expert storytellers and are trained to create fun and unique, locally-based experiences for the kids. On almost every departure, there is also a Junior Adventurers night, in which the kids have a special evening experience with their Guides, while the adults get a quiet evening on their own at the resort.

Local Experts: An authentic Tuscan chef, a naturalist from Costa Rica, a Chinese tai chi master – these local experts share a passion; they live and breathe the local history and culture of their destination. They are an integral part of every Adventures by Disney vacation. They join guests to share their stories and provide an “insider’s” perspective to each destination.

VIP Access: Travelers vacationing with Adventures by Disney receive VIP experiences that are practically impossible to schedule on their own. Special entry to otherwise crowded sites, unique accommodations (like castles in Ireland and Germany, a dude Ranch in Yellowstone and at the base of a live, active volcano in Costa Rica. Guests also get backstage access of celebrated performances like “The Lion King“ in London. These are just a few of the exceptional moments woven through each itinerary, promising expedited service and a broader knowledge of each destination.

Adventures by Disney’s 2010 destinations include 19 global itineraries:
